KwikDek Installation Instructions
Tools Required:
- Tape measure
- Utility knife
- Marking pencil
- Carpenters square
- Regular head screwdriver
- Power drill (or power screwdriver) with a Phillips head
- Saw (circular, table, reciprocating, jig or saber)
How to determine the quantity of KwikDek™ tiles needed:
or...
- When connected together, each KwikDek™ tile will cover 11.5" x 11.5"
- Measure the length and width of the area to be covered.(in inches).
- Subtract 2 5/8" for trim pieces (if used).
- Divide the remaining length measurement (in inches) by 11.5
- Round that number up to the nearest whole number to obtain the KwikDek™ length.
- Do the same for your width measurement to obtain the KwikDek™ width.
- Multiply those two numbers together to figure the total number of KwikDek™ pieces needed for the installation.
Surface Preparation:
KwikDek™ is designed to cover reasonably flat and reasonably solid surfaces.
For Concrete surfaces:
- The flexibility of KwikDek™ allows it to "bridge" over about 3/8" of vertical mismatch in a concrete sub-surface as long as that area is not directly below a parallel KwikDek™ seam.
- Extreme unevenness in a concrete surface will need to be repaired or smoothed over with a patching compound prior to KwikDek™ installation.
For Wood Decks:
- Although KwikDek™ is the perfect facelift for weathered wood decks, make sure the surface and supporting framework are structurally sound.
For Soil:
- Clear area of vegitation and level out the dirt. (Fig. A)
- Soil or sand areas to be covered with KwikDek™ should be mechanically tamped or compacted and covered with a weed control film. (Fig. B). and install KwikDek™ (Fig. C)
Installation:
- Begin the installation with trim pieces at the open side of the area to be covered; (Fig. D) where the KwikDek™ meets the lawn or any another flooring surface.
|
 |
- If trim pieces are not used, the connection system (loops and tabs) on the exposed edge of each tile can be removed with a utility knife (Fig. E) to leave a smooth edge. (Fig. F)
- Each KwikDek™ tile has two outside edges with "loops" or female connection points along the whole side and two outside edges with "tabs" or male connection points along the whole side.
|
  |
- To connect two panels together, position the male tabs over the female loops along the entire edge. Apply downward pressure on the tab side tile until all of the tabs are inserted fully into the loops. (Fig.G)
- Stubborn tabs can be coaxed in with a regular head screwdriver. (Fig. H) Once the tabs are fully inserted slide the tiles together until both the tabs and loops are hidden from view.
|
  |
- Rotating the KwikDek™ tile 90 degrees will alter the pattern, allowing for creative designs. (Fig. I,J,K and L)
|
- You will want to end the installation where the KwikDek™ meets a wall or any solid vertical surface. (Fig. M)
- Should a cut piece be necessary along the wall or vertical surface (see following instructions for cutting KwikDek™), the cut piece should not be narrower than 2" for horizontal tiles and 3" for diagonal tiles.
- If the initial measurements indicate a need for cut pieces less than the minimum then:
- adjust the starting point to either add to or eliminate the gap or - fill the gap with an outdoor quality wood that is stained to match KwikDek™ or - fashion a gap filler out of the KwikDek™ Transition Edge
|
 |
Cutting KwikDek:
- Start by measuring the space between the wall and the KwikDek™ wood (Fig. N).
Allow approximately 1/4" for the gap between tiles.
- Measure and mark the cutting line on the wood surface of the KwikDek™ (Fig. O).
- Turn the tile over and mark the same width on the bottom side.
- Caution: Screws that are on or within 1/2" of the cutting line need to be repositioned.
- The usable portion of each cut KwikDek™ tile must have enough screws in each wood slat to form a secure tile. We recommend repositioning screws from the unusable portion of the tile to the useable portion.
|

 |
- Remove the screws that are on or within 1/2" of the cutting mark using a power screwdriver or drill with a Phillips head (Fig. P).
- There are pilot holes designed into the mesh structure of the bottom, plastic portion of KwikDek™. Reposition the screw into a pilot hole that is at least 1/2" away from any edge of the wood.
|
 |
- Straight cuts can be made using a circular power saw, table saw (Fig. Q) or hand saw.
- Rounded or radius cuts can be made with saber or reciprocating saw (Fig. R).
|
  |
- After making the cut, smooth the cut edges with sandpaper (Fig. S).
- Treat the cut edges with either boiled linseed oil or teak oil (Fig. T).
|
  |
- Snap the cut KwikDek™ tile into place (Fig. U).
|
 |
Care and Maintenance:
- Due to the nature of wood products, no two tiles are exactly alike. Slight variations in wood fiber, grain and color are to be expected. When installed, these variations of hues contribute to the unique beauty of KwikDek™.
- KwikDek™ is manufactured with attractive Asian hardwoods, and is factory finished with a penetrating oil to help preserve its natural beauty.
- Light debris or dirt that may collect between the wood slats of KwikDek™ can be removed with a broom, leaf blower, vacuum cleaner or spray from a garden hose or pressure washer.
- To clean the surface of KwikDek™, use a mild detergent suitable for wood products.
- Much like conventional wood decking materials, heavy traffic and the elements of nature could affect the color and surface of KwikDek™. We recommend occasionally retreating KwikDek™ with teak oil, boiled linseed oil or other penetrating wood preservative products readily available where deck care products are sold.
- Carefully read and follow the label instructions for proper application of any wood treatment products.
